Sustainability & Our Packaging

At Helma's Topdolls, we believe that nostalgia and sustainability go hand in hand. Our collector's dolls—mostly created by Annette Himstedt, but also by Philip Heath and Zwergnase—already have a history behind them and are crafted to be cherished for generations to come.
By choosing a doll that has had a previous owner, you are giving a beautiful piece of history a new home while making an environmentally conscious choice.

Because sustainability means more to us than just the dolls themselves, we would like to explain how we handle our packaging and shipping.

The original box: Preserving heritage
Most collector's dolls, such as the Annette Himstedt dolls, date from the period between 1986 and 2009. Many of these dolls still come with their original cardboard packaging from that time.

Why we preserve them:
These original boxes are an essential part of the doll's history and its value to collectors.

Our sustainability tip:
We ask that you treat this original packaging with care and keep it. If you decide not to keep the box, please do not simply throw it away. Other collectors are often looking for them, or you can drop the cardboard off with us for free or place it in the paper recycling bin.

Green shipping: Our shipping boxes & packing materials
To ensure your unique doll and its delicate original box arrive undamaged, we need to protect them well during transit.
We do this in the most eco-friendly way possible:

Reused shipping boxes:
We often have an original cardboard shipping box available. If we don't have one available, we ship the doll in a box that originally held a different item.
We reuse clean, sturdy boxes from local shops or previous deliveries to avoid unnecessary consumption of new cardboard.
We always wrap the shipping box in recyclable packing paper so that the package's exterior doesn't reveal, for instance, that it contains an Annette Himstedt doll. The tape we use is made of paper.

Sustainable cushioning material:
We pack the doll in a suitably sized box to minimize empty space and use as little plastic as possible. To cushion the doll, we prefer using recyclable paper or reused materials.

PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation):
We reuse cardboard boxes that have already been used for shipping. These boxes are usually kept by the recipient (collector).
The boxes are fully recyclable.
For shipments from the Netherlands to Germany, we are registered with LUCID.
For shipments from the Netherlands to Germany, we use the DHL GoGreen shipping service.

What you can do:
It is a good idea to keep the shipping box as well. Keeping the shipping box around the original box helps preserve the latter's condition, and allows you to use the same packaging materials if you ever wish to ship the doll again. If you lack space, you can reuse the shipping box and cushioning material for your own shipments, or simply sort them correctly for paper and plastic recycling.

Together, we ensure that these special dolls have a minimal impact on the planet, but a maximum impact on your collection!
